It’s time to upload my new anim assignment – a full body vanilla (fancy way of saying generic) walk cycle. Everyone walks differently and there is no such thing as a normal walk. As far as the assignment is concerned, we just need to achieve a walk that is devoid of personality as much as possible. Walk cycle is hard, both with or without personality. (What will animation be if it isnt hard?) Before I post my walk, I want to point out some great resources on walk cycle.
ARC - my usual place to find help. Keith Lango VTS touched on walks too. And these set of Kyle Balda notes I found on my sch server. Speaking of Kyle Balda… I recently (a few months ago) saw his tutorial highlights abt acting with dialogue. Curious abt the diff approaches to acting scenes… before I start learning it.
(WOW, I just discover a new button on wordpress to insert a whole gallery of images. I can insert multiple images at one go! To do that, find ur gallery tab after clicking ‘insert image/video’ icons and scroll down. You will see the magic button.)
Ok, finally, my walk cycle. I animated 4 steps and looped it 3x. It looked pretty good to me on the day it was approved. The next day, it became crap! Haha, not that serious, but I saw quite a few unnatural areas… mainly the overlap at the hands and head. Perhaps even the torso and pelvis area. I can’t really pinpoint the mistakes. It will be nice if someone can enlighten me on it.
